Week commencing Monday 3rd May

On tuesday, we re pitched our idea and included the extra information needed to make our documentary choice clear. I started writing down possible questions for our interviews and discussed them with the group.

On thursday Anne Mullener from Carillion came into the college for an interview. We did the interview in the studio as we couldn't find an appropriate room to do it, so we set up a chair with a black background. Anne is the Head of Recruitment at Carillion, and has information about employing young offenders and contacts with organizations who train them. Before the interview, we had a chat with her about what our documentary is about and what the aim of the interview is. We went through each question and discussed her answers to make sure that she was completely comfortable with the interview. Anne was extremely helpful and gave us several good ideas and helped us to construct more useful questions. Although it was unfortunate that we had to do the interview in the studio, it went well and Anne gave us a lot of information.

On friday, Me, Adam and Josh went to Upskill in Derby to interview several people. Upskill work with young offenders and offer them simple skills in building work to help them get employment. We arrived at 9.00 and our first interview was with the Co-Owner of Upskill, Michael Dunne. He talked about what Upskill do, his involvement with the young offenders and his opinion on stereotypes. We then interviewed the course instructor, Trevor. He was very emotional about his involvement in training young offenders and spoke of how he often became attached to individuals. Trevor also talked about how the students change over the period of the course. Finally, we interviewed former youth offender Matt, who discussed with us how he came to be a young offender and how Upskill has helped him with self esteem and given him essential skills. Unfortunately we had problems with the microphone as there was a bad connection with the cable.
